The German Immigrant Experience

May 20 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Free

Join the Rev. Bart Muller to learn about the 20th New York United Turner Rifles, who participated in the landing and battles of Forts Hatteras and Clark. The 20th was one of a large number of foreign-speaking regiments raised in New York and throughout the Union. Rev. Muller, a descendant of members of the regiment, will discuss the origins of the Turner movement, German nationalism, immigration and this hard luck regiment and its history after Hatteras.

The program is part of the museum’s Salty Dawgs Lecture Seriess, which features presentations on North Carolina maritime history and culture. These programs are scheduled at 11 a.m. on Tuesdays from May 20 through Aug. 26 in the museum, located at 59200 Museum Drive in Hatteras. The series is free and open to the public. Reservations are not required. Call 252-986-0723 for more information.
