The museum put out a call to our Facebook followers to share their favorite Outer Banks images and scenes. A jury selected their favorite photographs for the exhibit, and more than 100 were put on display in the museum for visitors to select their favorite. The image receiving the most votes would be deemed People’s Choice. A community member who is a long-time art reviewer and has won awards for their photography was inspired to donate funds for a second award for excellence: Best in Show.
More than 3,000 visitors voted, but a front runner showed itself early on and remained in the lead throughout the seven months the exhibit was on display. Kenneth Newman of Prince George, Virginia, won for his image “Very Vivid Vessels.”
The award for excellence went to Nancy Hall of Martinsville, Virginia, for “Cousins’ First Visit to Rodanthe.”
