Until April, 1942 the east coast U-boat war was a howling success
as viewed through the German eyes and a deadly and frustrating exercise
to the men of the merchant marine and the U.S. Navy. Ships were
being sunk on an almost daily basis, while the brave sailors who manned
them suffered horribly and died anonymously. Then came the night
of April 13-14, 1942 and the U-85's time of reckoning!
