As seen from space, the Outer
Banks appears as a ribbon of sand skirting the coast of North
Carolina. These barrier islands are the remnants of ancient sand
dunes, a dynamic system which has survived the forces of nature
over the centuries.

The Graveyard of the Atlantic
Museum is located in Hatteras Village, the southern most
community on Hatteras Island. Access to the Museum is from
Highway 12 near the NC DOT ferry terminal on Coast Guard
Road.
